Implementation of the trial titled “Head to Head Trial (HHAT) of Modern Rice Varieties” under the TRB project of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Aman 2022 season in Bangladesh by Agribusiness Education and Research International.

More than 50% of the world’s population relies on rice as a staple diet, including the 135 million people who call Bangladesh home. More than half of all occupations in rural areas are related to rice, which also provides two-thirds of all calories and half of all protein consumed by regular citizens. On over 10.5 million hectares of land, 13 million families grow rice nationwide. Over 80% of all irrigated land and almost 75% of all farmland are used for rice cultivation. The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) was established in 1970 with the mission of creating modern rice varieties that are better suited to regional growing circumstances and improved production techniques. As a result, BRRI has gained a solid reputation both in Bangladesh and across the globe.

In order to manage crops effectively and optimize management for the expected or maximum output, this trail also aids in learning about the characteristics of various varietals. Additionally, it is equally important to comprehend the following components of agronomic management and varietal characteristics:

Varietal characteristics:

Growing season, Growth duration, Ecosystem, Tolerance, Plant height, leaf arrangement, yield potential, grain size, shape, and color.

Agronomic Management:

Seed and seedbed, preparation, seedling uprooting, use of optimum aged seedling, Land preparation, Balanced fertilization, Optimum irrigation, Weed management, Insect and disease management, Timely harvesting, etc.

Two Bangladeshi districts will participate in this trial. Farmers have already begun receiving seeds for the upcoming Aman 2022 season. The trial will essentially be implemented in the area affected by flash flood submergence (FFS) and the Coastal Ecosystem. By the way, Agribusiness Education and Agribusiness Education and Research International will carry out the experiment effectively and in accordance with Bangladesh Rice Research Institute’s criteria (BRRI).
