Environmentally friendly beef fattening project under AERI
In Bangladesh, the majority of rural agricultural families are engaged in animal husbandry operations in some capacity. Since there is a large market for animal products, easy access to materials and production methods, and relatively simple management, livestock rearing is generally regarded as a profitable enterprise. Livestock raising is typically viewed by many rural households as secondary employment among on-farm pursuits from the perspective of household income. Demand for animal products is anticipated to rise as a result of a growing global population and shifting consumption habits. An environmentally friendly beef fattening project under AERI is supported by the firm’s management as part of their regular research and extension activities.
For Bangladesh to continue making economic progress, improving environmental sustainability and climatic resilience is crucial. Bangladesh is one of the nations with the world’s most vulnerable economies to the effects of climate change. Air, soil and water pollution are on the rise as a result of the manufacturing sector’s explosive growth, which is dominated by micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. For Bangladesh to continue making progress in eradicating poverty and inequality, eliminating harmful environmental externalities has been listed as a priority. In terms of enhanced productivity and innovation, access to new markets, the creation of public revenue, and a reduction in shock susceptibility, Bangladesh would greatly gain from embarking on a greener growth track.
Due to a combination of capacity, market accessibility, knowledge, and financial limitations, the microenterprise sector pays insufficient attention to environmental sustainability and climate resilience. Despite the fact that data demonstrate a significant contribution from microenterprises to the GDP, there is little proof that their growth is sustainable. Except in certain circumstances, the performance of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses is constrained in terms of revenue earnings, machinery utilization, capital-labor ratio, and growth of value added. Negative externalities, like pollution, health effects, or loss of productivity, typically do not have a cost associated with them, which lessens the incentive for microenterprises to switch to more environmentally friendly products and services or to invest collectively in better environmental technologies and infrastructure.
Particularly in urban and peri-urban areas of the nation, beef fattening is now a significant livestock farming industry. There are a lot of smallholder farmers working to fatten their cattle. Population development, urbanization, and economic expansion all contribute to a rise in the demand for livestock, and meat is one of the main byproducts of cattle fattening in Bangladesh.
By giving precisely managed food within a certain time frame to generate more meat, beef fattening is the process of turning a 1-2-year-old undernourished cow into a fattened one. Numerous families living in particular districts of Bangladesh depend on this practice for their income.
Our definition of sustainability covers economic, social, and environmental aspects, as well as economic viewpoints that take into account the services that these systems provide. Our suggestion focuses on cattle production systems, which are being called into question by society more and more.
Agribusiness Education and Research International (AERI) supports the utilization and distribution of the findings while ensuring the scientific and financial coordination of the overall beef-fattening effort.
