Quality rice seed production and preservation training - Agribusiness Education and Research International

Training on quality rice seed production and preservation was held at Khagrachari.

The training was led by the International Rice Research Institute (IRI) at Khagrachari, in partnership with Agribusiness Education and Research International, and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It ended on November 14.

Seed Certification Officer (Additional Duty), Khagrachhari District, Agriculturist Zaheer Ahmed, taught all of the women farmers in the group how to grow seeds and how preserve them.

Farmers who went to the training said they hoped that, after learning how to make and store quality rice seeds, they would be able to store their own rice seeds in the right way. Before, they agreed to save their own rice seeds because the International Rice Research Institute had taught them how to do so.

Farmers are sure that the training they got from the International Rice Research Institute (IRI) and the District Seed Certification Officer will help them grow paddy more carefully and play a big role in saving seeds.

District Seed Certification Officer Agriculturist Zaheer Ahmed (Additional Charge) appreciated the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) for being involved in organizing such training. He said, “Since Bangladesh became independent, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) has been working hard to make sure the country has enough food. ” The production of quality seeds is essential for food production. He applauded them for such an initiative, and at the same time, the Khagrachari District Seed Certification Office agreed to provide training and support of all kinds.

The farmers thanked the International Rice Research Institute and asked the organizers to hold more training like this one in the future.
